The Brain: What it Helps us Do and How We Can Protect it

All of our organs in our bodies are important. Just like the heart, if the brain is malfunctioning, everything else will eventually too. Maintaining our brain health is a crucial part of existence, and for an organ that weighs only about three pounds, it sure is responsible for just about everything else going in our bodies.

Our brains host a ton of information just like a computer server as well as being responsible for our body’s most basic processes such as breathing and sleeping. It contains blood vessels, nerves, as well as trace minerals and salts such as protein, water and carbohydrates. The brain sends and receives electrical signals throughout the body and those signals control different processes and your brain interprets each one.

Some of these signals make you feel hungry or tired and others can make you feel pain. Both your brain and central nervous system relies on billions of neurons or nerve cells that send messages to other parts of the body when stimulated in some way.

There are 3 main parts of the brain and they are as follows:

  1. The Cerebellum is a fist sized portion of the brain located at the back of the head, below the temporal and occipital lobes and above the brainstem and its function is to coordinate voluntary muscle movements and to maintain posture, balance and equilibrium. Studies are currently being conducted to find out more about the roles it may play in thoughts, emotions, social behavior, and its potential involvement in mental illness, autism, and addiction.
  2. The Cerebrum is the largest part of the brain and it initiates and coordinates movement and regulates temperature. Other areas of this part of the brain enable speech, thinking, judgement, reasoning, emotions and learning. Some of its functions relate to vision, hearing, touch and other senses.
  3. The Brainstem is the middle of the brain that connects the cerebrum with the spinal cord. It includes the midbrain, pons and medulla which all serve different functions and complexes within the body.

For example, pons enable a range of activities such as chewing, tear production, blinking, focusing vision, hearing and facial expression whereas the medulla is to regulate many bodily activities including your heart rhythm, breathing, blood flow, oxygen and co2 levels and produces reflexive activities such as coughing, sneezing, swallowing and vomiting.

They can be further broken down into the 4 lobes of the brain which are:

  • This is the largest lobe of the brain located in the front of the head. It is involved in determining personality traits, decision-making and movement. It also contributes to our ability to smell and is associated with speech ability.
  • This is the middle part of the brain that helps people identify objects and understand spatial relationships such as awareness of where your body is in relation to other objects or people. It is also involved in interpreting the feeling of touch and interpreting pain in the body.
  • The sides of the brain, temporal lobes are responsible for short-term memory, speech, musical rhythm and some degree of smell recognition.
  • This is the back side of the brain that is involved with vision and helps interpret visual stimuli.

When your brain isn’t working as it should, you may be faced with mental illness conditions, stress, anxiety, headaches or you may have trouble concentrating or focusing on the things that matter in life, being overtired and feeling unwell.

Keeping your brain healthy should be a priority, so you can feel good and are prepared to face anything that comes your way. Fortunately, we have some products that may help keep your brain in shape, as well as some suggestions on maintaining stress levels, anxiety, and more!

The concern: ADHD in children and adults as well as general brain development, poor vision, and difficulty focusing and concentrating on tasks.  This product aids both children and adults, as there are many adults who may also find it difficult to swallow pills, making this chewable tablet ideal.

The solution: Kidz DHA Chewable Softgels.

DHA is an essential nutrient that is crucial to the development of a child’s brain during pregnancy and throughout early childhood. It also known for its ability to support and aid in improving heart health, vision and reduced inflammatory response. It is naturally produced in small quantities in our bodies, but in order to achieve adequate levels, DHA has to be a part of our daily diet or supplemented. Most DHA is found in animal products, so if you or your child is a vegetarian or vegan, you or your child may struggle to get enough of it every day.

A study found it’s efficacy during a period of 6 months where additional supplementation of DHA improved psychosocial functioning, emotional regulation, and concentration in children. This supplement is non-GMO, berry flavored and chewable, making it easy for your child, or an adult who may have difficulty swallowing pills to take and get just the right amount of DHA daily.
