Copaiba (Copaifera reticulata) is found in South America, mostly in Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Europe and the United States. New Sun Copaiba oil is sourced in Brazil. The tree produces small white flowers on long panicles and small fruit pods that contain 2-4 seeds. Olesresin accumulates in the cavities within the tree and is harvested much like maple syrup. The resin has been used for centuries, the first known recording was in Europe in 1625. It was brought to the New World by Jesuits and called Jesuits balsam. It has been used medically for hundreds of years.
